The Raspberry Pi is a single-board palm sized computer developed in the UK by the Raspberry Pi Foundations. The Foundation’s goal is to offer two versions, priced at US$25 and $35 (plus local taxes). The Foundation started accepting orders for the higher priced model on 29 February 2012. The design is based on a Broadcom BCM2835 system on a chip (SoC), which includes an ARM1176JZF-S700 MHz processor, Videocore IV GPU, and 256 Megabytes of RAM, USB 2.0 and 3.5mm audio jacks, and power comes via a MicroUSB connector. For Wi-Fi connectivity an external Wi-Fi adapter can be plugged into the USB port. The device is powered by 5v micro USB, and astonishingly, it is possible to run the Pi from 4 AA batteries! The design does not include a built-in hardisk or solid-stat drive, instead relying on an SD cards for booting and long-term storage.
